Central Nebraska Business Idea Contest 2013
The UNK Center for Rural Research and Development invited entrepreneurs to submit a video describing an idea for a new business, service or product. The entries are divided into groups, Retail, Product Invention, Service, Food/Restaurant and Web/IT. Judges who work in each field watched the videos and looked over the written portion ( description, target industry & customer, 6 month goal and Value/What makes idea innovative) and chose their top 2-3 entries. The top 10 were invited to participate in a live Shark Tank-like event. Each contestant's video was shown and then they were subjected to 3 minutes of questions from the 3 Sharks. The Sharks then chose the top 3 and after another 1 minute pitch from them, the audience placed their ballot in the bucket of their choice for winner. The top prize was $1000 sponsored by the Buffalo County Economic Development, 2nd prize was $500 sponsored by the University of Nebraska-Kearney College of Business & Technology and 3rd prize was $250 sponsored by Invest Nebraska Corporation. There were 39 entries and nearly 90 in attendance at the live event.
- When: Initial deadline was Oct. 28, and the live event was Nov. 13. We normally try to have it during Entrepreneurial Week but timing didn't work out for that, Hope we can still consider this a Global E-Week Event.
